In The News: Global Youth Climate Strike
Contribution Editor: Nancy Hu, Lafayette Environmental Task Force
In August 2018, a then 15-year-old named Greta Thunberg started to school strike for the climate on the steps of Sweden’s Parliament every Friday. Since then, millions of students around the globe have joined her in striking from school for the climate, in a movement called Fridays for Future.
This fall, Greta and our youth are inviting and asking for adults to join in. From September 20-27, people all around the globe, will walk out of their homes and workplaces together, and band with youth strikers in the streets to demand climate justice and emergency action to tackle the climate crisis. We know governments won’t do it on their own, so we’re going on #climatestrike to show them what people power is capable of. Let’s all come together, with our neighbors, co-workers, friends, family and make this a turning point in our history. As Greta states, “I want you to act as if our house is on fire. Because it is.” This planet is our only home. Everyone can, and must help. For more info, visit https://globalclimatestrike.net.
