Mission Statement

Mission

Our mission is to provide the community of Lafayette with the information, inspiration, tools, and assistance that facilitate the adoption of sustainable practices. Furthermore, we seek to act as a model, mentor, and partner for other interested communities.

Approach

Sustainable Lafayette works in a collaborative, practical, and constructive manner. We build on success already underway, and we localize information and tools to be the most relevant and useful for the community. We try to partner with organizations inside and outside of Lafayette that can help us achieve our mission.

Those Served

We serve the people and organizations within Lafayette that play a role in the community’s sustainability (residents, local businesses, schools, property owners, city government, and community organizations) in order to benefit the environment and future generations.

The Board

Sustainable Lafayette has a Board of Directors that meets monthly to steer the direction of Sustainable Lafayette and to provide leadership for our various initiatives.  Besides a common passion for sustainability, the Board has valuable expertise in energy efficiency, transportation, waste reduction, environmental science, sustainable & local food, sustainable landscaping, and education. Board meetings are open to any member of Sustainable Lafayette. More about the Board…

Founders

Sustainable Lafayette was started by Steve Richard and Bart Carr in early 2007.  After being inspired by An Inconvenient Truth, Steve and Bart began making changes at their own homes.

Finding each other’s stories inspiring, they decided it would be useful to setup a way to share stories across the entire community in hopes that the whole community could learn and be inspired by each other’s efforts.
